Begin and end each meal with the name and praise of Allah, and say the dua when you break your fast.

Invocations before eating

(When you are about to eat, you should say:(Bismil-lah.)and if you forget to say it before starting, then you should say (when you remember):Bismil-lahi fee awwalihi wa-akhirih.)

((إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ طَعَاماً فَلْيَقُلْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، فَإِنْ نَسِيَ فِي أَوَّلِهِ فَلْيَقُلْ بسمِ اللَّهِ فِي أَوَّلِهِ وَآخِرِهِ)).

(When you are about to eat, you should say:(Bismil-lah.)and if you forget to say it before starting, then you should say (when you remember):In the name of Allah in it’s beginning and end.)

(Whomever Allah feeds, should say:(Allahumma barik lana feehi wa-atAAimna khayran minh.) and whomever Allah gives milk to drink should say:(Allahumma barik lana feehi wazidna minh.))

((مَنْ أَطْعَمَهُ اللَّهُ الطَّعَامَ فَلْيَقُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْراً مِنْهُ، وَمَنْ سَقَاهُ اللَّهُ لَبَناً فَلْيَقُلْ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ)).

(Whomever Allah feeds, should say:(O Allah, bless it for us and feed us better than it.) and whomever Allah gives milk to drink should say:(O Allah, bless it for usand give us more of it.))

Invocations after eating

(Alhamdu lillahil-lathee atAAamanee hatha warazaqaneehi min ghayri hawlin minnee wala quwwah.)

((الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا، وَرَزَقَنِيهِ، مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ)).

(All praise is for Allah who fed me this and provided it for me without any might nor power from myself.)

(Alhamdu lillahi hamdan katheeran tayyiban mubarakan feeh, ghayra makfiyyin wala muwaddaAAin, wala mustaghnan AAanhu rabbuna.)

((الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْداً كَثِيراً طَيِّباً مُبَارَكاً فِيهِ، غَيْرَ [مَكْفِيٍّ وَلاَ ] مُوَدَّعٍ، وَلاَ مُسْتَغْنَىً عَنْهُ رَبَّنَا)).

(Allah be praised with an abundant beautiful blessed praise, a never-ending praise, a praise which we will never bid farewell to and an indispensable praise, He is our Lord.)(There are other views as regards to the understanding of this supplication, from them: Allah be praised with an abundant beautiful blessed praise. He is The One Who is sufficient, feeds and is not fed. The One Who is longed for, along with that which is with Him and The One Who is needed, He is our Lord.)

Invocations for breaking the fast

(Thahabath-thama-o wabtallatil-AAurooq, wathabatal-ajru in shaal-lah.)

((ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ العُرُوقُ، وَثَبَتَ الْأَجْرُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ)).

(The thirst has gone and the veins are quenched, and reward is confirmed, if Allah wills.)

(Allahumma inne as-aluka birahmatikal-latee wasiAAat kulla shay, an taghfira lee.)

((اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ الَّتِي وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ أَنْ تَغْفِرَ لِي)).

(O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy which envelopes all things, that You forgive me.)
