How many surahs, verses and juz are in the Quran?
There are 114 surahs and 30 juz'. In the Hafs count, which is the most widespread, the Quran has 6,236 verses, counting the Basmalah as the first verse of Al-Fatihah.
Which Arabic text and translation are used?
The Arabic text is the Uthmani script in the recitation of Hafs from 'Asim. The English translation is Sahih International, and each other language uses the translation named under the verses of its pages.
How do I search for a verse or a surah?
Use the search box on the Quran page. Type a surah name or number, a reference such as 2:255, or any word from a verse, in Arabic or in the language of the page. Each result opens at that verse.
Can I listen to one verse at a time?
Yes. Press the play icon next to any verse, and the next verses follow with no gap. You can choose among 19 reciters, change the speed and repeat a verse. When a surah ends, the next surah starts.
What is the difference between Meccan and Medinan surahs?
Meccan surahs were revealed before the Hijra and focus on faith, the Hereafter and the stories of earlier prophets. Medinan surahs were revealed after it and include many rulings for the community. Each surah page shows its type.
What is a verse of prostration (sajdah)?
It is a verse after which the reader or listener makes a prostration of recitation (sujud al-tilawah). Scholars count fourteen or fifteen of them. The surah pages mark these verses.
Do I need wudu to read the Quran on a phone?
Scholars differ. Many say the rule of touching the mushaf with wudu applies to the printed copy, and allow reading from a screen without wudu. Others advise wudu out of respect. Being in wudu is better in every case.
