Zakat becomes due after you have owned wealth above the nisab for one full lunar year (hawl). Pay it on the net wealth you hold on your zakat date.
This calculator is a general guide, not a fatwa. For complicated cases, such as pensions, mortgages, shared businesses or farmland, ask a qualified scholar.
Who can receive zakat?
The Quran names eight categories of people who may receive zakat (9:60), including the poor, the needy, people in debt and travellers in need.
Common questions
What is the nisab?
The nisab is the minimum amount of wealth after which zakat becomes due. It is commonly given as the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver.
How much zakat do I pay?
On money, gold, silver, trade goods and investments, zakat is 2.5% of the net amount you hold on your zakat date, if you have owned it for a full lunar year.
Are my numbers saved?
No. Your amounts stay in your browser and are never sent to us. The page only asks a price service for today's gold and silver rates, and your numbers are not part of that request.
Where do the gold and silver prices come from?
They are approximate market prices loaded from two free public services (gold-api.com and open.er-api.com), so they may differ a little from your local jeweller. You can always type your own price.
