Is alcohol haram in Islam?

Short answer

Yes. Alcohol (khamr) and every intoxicant are haram. The Quran calls intoxicants an abomination of Satan's handiwork and commands the believers to avoid them (5:90). The Prophet ﷺ said that every intoxicant is khamr and every khamr is forbidden, and that what intoxicates in a large amount is forbidden even in a small amount.

Evidence

Quran
