Tens of millions of Muslims live in Europe, North America and Australia, many as citizens born there. They work in every profession, attend local schools, take part in public life and also keep their faith, with mosques, halal food and Islamic schools.
The fuller answer
Islamic teaching asks Muslims to be good neighbours, to keep their promises and to be useful to society, wherever they live. The Quran says to deal kindly and fairly with those who do not fight you because of your religion. Muslim doctors, teachers, soldiers, lawmakers and athletes serve in Western countries.
Muslim communities also face difficulties: discrimination, hate crimes, and debates about dress and integration. Surveys show that Muslims in the West are generally more religious than the average citizen and also say that they feel loyal to their country. Many Muslim organisations work on charity, interfaith dialogue and local service.
Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
