Il Corano non dice chi o che cosa fu mostrato al suo posto, e i musulmani non hanno bisogno di saperlo. La loro fede poggia sull'affermazione del versetto stesso: non lo uccisero e non lo crocifissero, ma così sembrò loro.
L'Islam insegna anche che nessuna anima porta il peccato di un'altra, quindi una persona non ha bisogno di un sacrificio per essere perdonata. Chiunque si pente sinceramente è perdonato direttamente da Dio, che è il Più Misericordioso.
