Scholars differ. Most hold that all sea animals are lawful, because the Quran says that the game of the sea and its food are permitted (5:96). The Hanafi school allows only fish and not other sea animals such as shrimp, though many Hanafi scholars today permit shrimp. Follow the view of the school or scholar you rely on.
أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ ٱلْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُۥ مَتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِ ۖ وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَيْدُ ٱلْبَرِّ مَا دُمْتُمْ حُرُمًۭا ۗ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِىٓ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ ﴿٩٦﴾
Денгиз ови ва унинг таоми сизга ва сайр қилувчиларга ҳалол қилинди. Модомики эҳромда экансиз, сизга қуруқлик ови ҳаром қилинди. Ҳузурида тўпланадиганингиз Аллоҳга тақво қилинг.
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِتَأْكُلُوا۟ مِنْهُ لَحْمًۭا طَرِيًّۭا وَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا۟ مِنْهُ حِلْيَةًۭ تَلْبَسُونَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلْفُلْكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿١٤﴾
У денгизни сиз ундан тоза гўшт ейишингиз, ундан тақадиган тақинчоқлар чиқариб олишингиз учун, унда (сувни) ёриб кетаётган кемаларни кўрасан, ҳамда унинг фазлини талаб қилишингиз учун хизматкор қилди. Шоядки, шукр келтирсангиз. (Аллоҳ таолонинг сувдаги неъматлари ҳам жуда кўпдир. Ушбу оятда улардан баъзилари зикр қилинмоқда.)
