Scholars differ. Most hold that all sea animals are lawful, because the Quran says that the game of the sea and its food are permitted (5:96). The Hanafi school allows only fish and not other sea animals such as shrimp, though many Hanafi scholars today permit shrimp. Follow the view of the school or scholar you rely on.
أُحِلَّ لَكُمْ صَيْدُ ٱلْبَحْرِ وَطَعَامُهُۥ مَتَٰعًۭا لَّكُمْ وَلِلسَّيَّارَةِ ۖ وَحُرِّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ صَيْدُ ٱلْبَرِّ مَا دُمْتُمْ حُرُمًۭا ۗ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِىٓ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ ﴿٩٦﴾
तुम्हारे और काफ़िले के वास्ते दरियाई शिकार और उसका खाना तो (हर हालत में) तुम्हारे वास्ते जायज़ कर दिया है मगर खुश्की का शिकार जब तक तुम हालते एहराम में रहो तुम पर हराम है और उस ख़ुदा से डरते रहो जिसकी तरफ (मरने के बाद) उठाए जाओगे
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِتَأْكُلُوا۟ مِنْهُ لَحْمًۭا طَرِيًّۭا وَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا۟ مِنْهُ حِلْيَةًۭ تَلْبَسُونَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلْفُلْكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿١٤﴾
कुछ शक़ नहीं कि इसमें भी इबरत व नसीहत हासिल करने वालों के वास्ते (कुदरते ख़ुदा की) बहुत सी निशानी है और वही (वह ख़ुदा है जिसने दरिया को (भी तुम्हारे) क़ब्ज़े में कर दिया ताकि तुम इसमें से (मछलियों का) ताज़ा ताज़ा गोश्त खाओ और इसमें से जेवर (की चीज़े मोती वगैरह) निकालो जिन को तुम पहना करते हो और तू कश्तियों को देखता है कि (आमद व रफत में) दरिया में (पानी को) चीरती फाड़ती आती है
